Is Having a Belly Pooch a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

Well, that all depends on how you look at it!

I know a few belly dancers that have LOTS of jiggly-wiggly around their waistlines and I think it's beautiful! They are PROUD of their jiggly-wiggly and this is why they show it off! They love and appreciate their bodies and so they dance, celebrate and honor their belly pooch with pride and passion.

WOW, what a concept to love, honor and respect your body just the way it is!!

I admire these women because it says to me that it is OK for us women to have some belly pooch around our waistline. Belly pooch is healthy, NATURAL, lovely and luscious as long as it's not taken to an extreme point where it compromises our health and well-being.

Symptoms:

You will know when your healthy luscious belly pooch turns into an unhealthy belly pooch when you no longer have the energy to dance anymore and you become unhappy, tired and grouchy and no one wants to be around you anymore because you no longer dance or smile.

Reason:

The reason WHY our healthy luscious belly pooch turns into an unhealthy belly pooch is because when we get overly STRESSED OUT our hormones become all WHACKED out!!

YIKES!!!

When this happens, our bodies start to produce a hormone called CORTISOL (a fat storing hormone) which could lead to an unhealthy belly pooch that makes us feel uncomfortable, cranky and then our smile goes away.

When we begin to see that our healthy, beautiful luscious belly pooch is growing out of control, we FREAK out and then we STARVE ourselves to death thinking that this will solve the problem.

This is NOT a good idea!

Why?

The reason for this is because cutting down on too many calories causes your body to become NUTRIENT DEFICIENT.

The answer is not in starving yourself.

When you starve yourself this causes the production of the HUNGER hormone GHRELIN to increase and therefore turns you into a Ravenous- Wicked- Wild -Woman!

EEEK - The Ravenous - Wicked - Wild Woman!!!

When this happens, your body sends a really STRONG hunger signal to your BRAIN which you won't be able to control and therefore causes you to OVER EAT!

OMG!! So what do you do now?

Here Is The Solution:

  • Love and ACCEPT your luscious belly pooch for being beautiful and natural. Dance, celebrate and honor your fullness and your womanhood with pride and passion.
  • Take some time out for YOU each day to quiet your mind and relax your body. Don't let stress consume you. If people BUG you - tell them to GO AWAY but smile and be nice about it - don't burn any bridges - you may need to borrow some money from them down the road! You never know - times are tough these days!! LOL!
  • Be sure to exercise your luscious belly pooch a little bit each day so that it remains strong, beautiful and supple. Don't ever be ashamed of your beautiful belly pooch.
  • Eat for your HEALTH. Eat whole live nutrient dense foods (fruits, vegetables, grains) grown straight from the earth. Processed foods cause mineral deficiencies and all kinds of YUCKY imbalances that lead your body to retain water. Also known as "water-belly." These foods are also addictive and mess with your brain chemicals also known as neurotransmitters. Not only that but chemically engineered highly processed foods cause our bodies to accumulate harmful toxic waste.

Eewww... YUCK - toxic waste!!

This causes us to have inconsistent (poo- poo) bowel movements. This in turn increases the amount of toxic waste that is accumulated in and around our belly.

I don't know about you but I DON'T want any toxic waste inside my luscious, beautiful belly pooch.

ICKY-YUCKY!!!

  1. Wow! This is amazing! Stress actually CAUSES you to store fat chemically!!!

No wonder I've been able to maintain my weight for over 20 years in a normal range!

    I am almost always happy!

P.S. On the belly pooch thing....I am half Lebonese and that belly dancing thing was a big deal. "Having curves", as my Grandma put it, and having a bit of a belly like that, not flat at all was actually a MUCH DESIRED trait.

I quit trying to ever look like the American Ideal when I was very young as I got plenty of good attention and compliments looking just like I did. :-) As I always say, it is all perception. :-)

    1. The physiology of our body and how everything (chemically) effects everything else is a pretty amazing study Kathy. Our body is an amazing and intelligent creation.

Being a happy person does wonders in all areas of your life. With this positive state of mind, you maintain a healthy weight, you maintain healthy friendships, healthy relationships, and the list goes on and on...

Being a curvey women is a beautiful thing to be proud of!! Our society (the American ideal) has distorted this and that is why there are so many problems with healthy body esteem these days!

I don't buy into it either Kathy - Good for you!! Continue to show off your beautiful curves and accept the complements that are true to who you are.

      Healthy Blessings,
      Gena :)

  4. Wonderful post! I admit, my belly pooch is currently rather larger than I'd like it to be, but, thankfully, it does not stop me from dancing, celebrating and smiling (I dance at least twice a week for 3-4 hours a night, though my goal is 3-4 nights) and I spend about 1 1/2 hours, 3 times a week working on my muscles as well. But you put the part about loving your whole self so very well!

  5. Sheri, you GET it completely!!! I love your spirit and everything that you stand for.

There are so many unhealthy thin people out there today because they are doing very damaging things to their bodies in order to stay that way. That is not a healthy way to live or to be.

We all come in "different" shapes and sizes. That is the beauty of variety!! Our Creator intended it this way!

If you are large/medium framed that doesn't mean that you are unhealthy so celebrate, dance and NEVER forget to smile!!!

Enjoy the beautiful creation that you are - just as you ARE!!

    Healthy Blessings,
    Gena
